Hugo Rodríguez
Hugo Rodríguez (*1984 in Madrid) embarked upon his clarinet studies in Madrid and Salamanca, and later moved to Weimar, where he studied at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt with Prof. Martin Spangenberg from 2007 to 2011. He was a member of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, and the Academy at the Konzerthaus Orchester Berlin. He held the position of Clarinet Soloist of the Vogtland Philharmonie from 2014-16, and currently he collaborates with various symphony and opera orchestras in Germany. He has appeared as a soloist with several orchestras in Germany and abroad. One of his great passions is chamber music, which he studied in depth while completing a master’s degree with the Artemis Quartet at Universität der Künste in Berlin. He was a long-standing scholar at the Villa Musica Foundation Rheinland-Pfalz and the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation, and won prizes at competitions in Chieri, Cofrentes and Villa Musica. Currently he is an active and sought-after chamber musician with a wide repertoire. A keen interest in contemporary music has led him to perform as a member of the Ensemble Iberoamericano and other ensembles, and as a soloist at festivals such as Podium Festival Esslingen, Acht Brücken, MärzMusik, Ultraschall Berlin, Unerhörte Musik and Impuls Dessau. Pedagogy is a steady component of his work, whether as a clarinet teacher in Berlin or as a founding member of the Ensemble ImaginAria, specializing in cross-medial music education for children. Master classes and work with youth orchestras have taken him as far as Germany, Spain, Russia, Lebanon, China, India and Peru.
